Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 327-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus as well as at 10 Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.

Job Role Summary

The Carpenter installs, maintains, and repairs systems as described herein that support the facilities operations throughout Eskenazi Health.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Proactively contributes to Eskenazi Health's mission: Advocate, Care, Teach, and Serve with special emphasis on the vulnerable population of Marion County. Models Eskenazi Health's values of Professionalism, Respect, Innovation, Development, and Excellence
  • Fabricates specialty items as requested by hospital personnel
  • Repairs broken furniture and other wood items requiring carpentry maintenance as needed
  • Performs architectural construction duties (i.e. installs suspended ceilings, builds walls, hangs doors, etc.)
  • Performs general building maintenance
  • Performs maintenance, repair, and installation of doors, door frames and all associated hardware independently and in support of the Locksmith
  • Installs fire stop products

Job Requirements

  • Completion of high school or equivalent (GED), plus completion of an approved apprenticeship program or equivalent experience (5 years minimum)
  • Applicants may be tested on both knowledge and skills

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Skilled in the use of hand power tools, i.e., saws, drills, chisels, planes, etc., and at least semi-skilled with power shop tools as used in cabinet work and plastic laminating, i.e. table saws, joiners, shapers, routers, etc.
  • Skills should include proficiency in the following disciplines: cabinet making, plastic laminating, gypsum drywall and metal stud construction, suspended ceiling systems, concrete framework, window glazing, door handing, door hardware, and wall base installation
  • Ability to interpret and work from blueprints
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing and follow written/verbal instructions effectively and use age-appropriate communication skills
  • Must be able to work from ladders and scaffolds
  • Knowledge of:
    • Construction materials (their suitability and properties), including fire, smoke walls and doors/frames
    • Safety glazing and safety in general, including Infection Control Risk Assessment Guidelines
