Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Job Role Summary

The Biomedical Equipment Technician II repairs and maintains medical equipment and associated information technology.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Performs preventative maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting and repair of both mechanical and electronic medical equipment.
  • Ensures safety as related to medical equipment and its use to include; acceptance inspection for new equipment, safety inspections from borrowed and/or rental equipment, scheduled safety and operational inspection of current inventory, following appropriate sterile procedures
  • Reports to Biomedical Equipment Tech III for projects and special assignments as dictated by management. Responsible for documentation of time and progress details.
  • Responsible for documenting work activity both in equipment maintenance software and on appropriate forms when required, in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for the management of equipment within "core" group of equipment as well as any assigned equipment to include scheduled preventative maintenance, repair and in-service needs when identified. This includes meeting Joint Commission thresholds for life support and non-life support PM completion.
  • Is familiar with guidelines established by National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), The Joint Commission, Indiana State Board of Health, EPA, OSHA and Eskenazi Health's Biomedical Engineering Department. When in question seeks out information from management or BMET III.
  • Prioritizes and implements preventive maintenance program which includes documentation of results and testing of equipment. Creates PM procedures and forms for specific equipment testing
  • Maintains a working knowledge of biomedical engineering network systems to include but not limited to: Infant and adult security network, infusion pump maintenance network and reporting, electronic medical record middleware, RFID systems, and patient monitoring networks.
  • Assists with medical device network security controls and audits.
  • Works with Information Security Officer to understand HIPPA and ePHI requirements and ensures compliance for Biomedical Engineering staff.

Job Requirements

  • Completion of an Associate or Vocational degree in Biomedical Engineering Technology or technology related degree. Plus at least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in repair of hospital/medical equipment OR
  • AAS in Biomedical Engineering or technology related degree, AAMI Certification and 2 years' experience in a repair of hospital / medical equipment OR
  • Bachelor's degree in a related engineering area plus one year of related intermediate engineering level experience
  • Relevant information technology certifications/training preferred (e.g. A+/Net+, MCSE/MCSA, CCNA/CCDP/CCIE, CNE, PMI/PMP, CCSA, etc.)
  • Must hold a valid Indiana driver's license that meets Eskenazi Health's driving policy requirements

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of electronic circuits and related information
  • Basic knowledge/understanding of medical terminology
  • Basic knowledge/understanding of pneumatics and plumbing.
  • Effectively communicate with written and oral skills to clinical hospital staff, departmental personnel and vendors.
  • Utilize Microsoft office applications for communications and educational presentations.
  • Maintain an orderly and efficient work space contained within your assigned area.
  • Knowledge of physical sciences as it applies to the area of medical instrumentation and devices
  • Maintain knowledge and commitment toward job specific measured competencies
