Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 327-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus as well as at 10 Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver legal counsel on diverse healthcare and business issues, ensuring alignment with Eskenazi Health’s mission and PRIDE values.

Advise on regulatory and operational matters, including Medicare/Medicaid compliance, EMTALA, CMS Conditions of Participation, HIPAA, telehealth, price transparency, billing, enrollment, research, and health information.

Monitor regulatory changes and educate organizational leaders and Legal Affairs staff on compliance requirements.

Oversee Eskenazi Health’s Medical Legal Partnership (MLP), including:
- Managing legal aid and pro bono partners.
- Expanding affiliate relationships and specialty initiatives (e.g., Housing Rights & Eviction Helpline).
- Supporting training sessions, research, and publications related to MLP.

Draft, review, and negotiate contracts for services, research, managed care, value-based care, medical devices, software, and grants.

Review and update organizational policies and procedures.

Support Senior Counsel and Risk Management on litigation matters.

Address legal issues related to governmental entities, including public records requests.

Provide guidance on medical staff and patient care matters (e.g., mental health, guardianship, emergency detentions, commitments, carceral care, decisional capacity).Conduct legal training and represent Legal Affairs on committees and work groups.Perform other duties as assigned.
