Eskenazi Medical Group (EMG) is seeking a highly qualified Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, or APRN to join the Gender Health Surgery Team. EMG is affiliated with Eskenazi Health and employs physician and advanced practice providers who support the Eskenazi Health system. The Advanced APP - Gender Health Surgery works as an educator, advocate and care provider and is responsible for the care and well-being of patients in the gender health surgery program.  Responsibilities center on patients seeking gender affirming surgical procedures and span outpatient clinic, perioperative, and inpatient settings.


Inpatient Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with healthcare team (surgeon, resident, other) to formulate and implement treatment plan; including daily rounds with residents and staff; and facilitate patient discharge.
  • Obtain/update consent, history and physical, surgical site marking, pre-operative labs and medications for surgical patients.
  • Serve as point of contact for nursing staff, physical and occupational therapy, and ancillary staff for the surgical team.
  • Collaborate with other services, such as medicine, infectious diseases, etc. as needed.
  • Order laboratory test and medications as relevant.


Outpatient Responsibilities

  • Point of contact for gender health surgical clinic staff
  • Assure consistent service line-focused coordination of care, throughout multiple phases of treatment plan.
  • See patients in clinics daily including new gender health surgical patients and surgical follow up patients.
  • Assist with scheduling triage, facilitation of appointments, ordering and interpretation of diagnostic and laboratory tests as needed.
  • Provide clinic coverage when surgical staff physicians are out of the office.
  • Screen surgery patients, focusing on determination of treatment and optimal disposition.
  • Complete surgical preparation for cases in clinic.
  • Manage medication refills for the surgical service.
  • Assist with completion of FMLA/disability paperwork for patients.
