Overview

Eskenazi Medical Group is seeking a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner in the Plastic Surgery area that will apply diagnostic reasoning and psychomotor skills in the performance of procedures, evaluates, consults and makes referrals, conducts family assessments and education and completes discharge planning as required.

 

Responsibilities

This Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner will see patients in the clinic, in the OR and post-operatively. The position will be located in the Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital, Indianapolis, IN. 

• Utilize Gender Health staff during clinic hours and respond directly to patient calls regarding medical concerns, and medication refills
• Complete prior authorizations for medications utilized in specialty and primary care services for patients receiving care in Gender Health
• Review labs and diagnostic testing related to primary care and gender affirming hormone therapy
• Evaluate and revise patient plans of care with changing diagnostic results and individual needs.
• Collaborate with Gender Health staff physicians or other providers as necessary
• Notify patients of changes to care plan and diagnostic results
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team (social workers, nurses, interpreters, pharmacists, program coordinator, dietician, speech therapists, attorneys, physicians etc.) to evaluate needs, determine supports and initiate appropriate wraparound services. 
• Precept APRN students by providing clinic education and support during APRN students' clinical rotations in the Gender Health.
• Maintains appropriate certifications and pursues scholarship in evidence-based practices for patient care across the continuum of gender affirming medical care, primary and preventive care 
• Education of Eskenazi staff at all levels regarding cultural sensitivity, where appropriate.

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited school of nursing with a Master of Science degree
-Current Indiana license, Indiana Controlled Substance and Drug Enforcement Registration

Expertise in the practice of nursing validated by five years of current clinical practice including two years in the area of adult/family practice preferred.


Experience working with transgender and non-binary patients is an asset.  Gender Health Program works as an educator, advocate and care provider and is responsible for the care and well-being of transgender and non-binary patients with independent oversight of a large panel of patients. This will involve providing primary care, urgent care and gender affirming care, including but not limited to gender affirming hormone therapy. In addition, provides care to patients to provide Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) and Non-occupational Post Exposure Prophylaxis (APRNEP) . Approximately 20% of time will be dedicated to LGBTQ identified victims of sexual assault/ abuse. This involves advocacy, ensuring appropriate testing and follow-up, connection to wrap around services including counselling.  The setting is a busy multi-disciplinary Gender Health program serving over 1500 patients ages 16 and older
