Job Role Summary

This position is responsible for providing administrative direction and management of activities and outcomes related to the department of Environmental Health Safety & Management.  The department of Environmental Health Safety & Management (EHSM) works cooperatively with the department of Housing and Neighborhood Health.  The department is responsible for cleaning health hazards from vacant homes, vacant lots, and under certain circumstances, occupied structures.  The department is responsible for removing trash, junk, miscellaneous debris, and mowing high grass and weeds.  EHSM is responsible for administering the Clean & Lien program, for properties that we have cleaned, placed liens, and receives reimbursement from the city of Indianapolis once the taxes are paid.  The department participates in neighborhood clean ups and educational fairs, and works cooperatively with other programs within the Environment Health Bureau.  This position is also responsible for establishing departmental performance standards in correlation with the national performance standards as established by the Center for Disease Control (CDC).

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Department head – direct activities of a department, work with field operation manager and crew chiefs
  • Performance evaluations, hiring, disciplinary actions, counseling and training


  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in related area
  • Minimum five years in leadership role

Licenses/Certifications Required

  • Valid driver's license
