Job Role Summary
This position will coordinate activities of the Marion County Public Health Department’s (MCPHD) Academic Health Department (AHD) (75%) and as joint faculty within the Indiana University Richard M Fairbanks School of Public Health (FSPH) (25%). The position will support the missions of both the MCPHD and FSPH to address public health workforce needs and public health issues. Major responsibilities within MCPHD include establishing and maintaining lists of core/affiliate FSPH faculty and external partners with public health practice expertise, interest, or needs; facilitating interaction and collaboration among partners; investigating, integrating, and leading expanded research capacity; providing management and direction to staff working within and supporting efforts of the AHD; and working with the HHC/MCPHD Grants Department to develop grant proposals involving the AHD and standardize language across grant applications. Major responsibilities within FSPH include coordinating the MCPHD student experience for FSPH students; maintaining contact with faculty and staff working with the AHD within FSPH; and coordinating teaching and lecturing responsibilities for MCPHD staff. This position will work on behalf of MCPHD and FSPH in the community to create partnerships and systems to address community health needs prioritized by MCPHD and FSPH.
Essential Duties
Academic Health Department Leadership: 75%
- Establish strategic goals to build, evaluate, improve, and sustain MCPHD as an Academic Health Department, and assure progress toward strategic goals
- Create and maintain evaluation plan for AHD strategic plan
- Work closely with both organizations to develop a short-and long-term research agenda
- Oversee student experience efforts, data tracking, and technical assistance for students and preceptors associated with AHD
- Manage AHD staff and provide oversight to internal partners supporting AHD activities
- Coordinate and maintain lists of and partnerships with core/affiliate FSPH faculty and external collaborative partners
- Prioritize projects and tasks to best address the departments’ needs and fulfill the agency’s mission
- Assist with designing, conducting, and interpreting statistical analyses, as needed in support of expanded research efforts
- Participate in developing data collection mechanisms
- Provides research and evaluation expertise and guidance to other program areas of the corporation
- Negotiate data sharing agreements between MCPHD and FSPH
- Lead, collaborate with, or facilitate internal or external partners in grants and other projects to improve public health practice.
- Create relationships with other academic institutions
- Attend and participate in national meetings and conferences as needed
- Participate in public health emergency preparedness exercises and in the response to public health emergencies, as directed
- Participate in a minimum of two H.O.P.E. events totaling a minimum of eight (8) hours annually.

Associated Job Duties
Fairbanks School of Public Health joint position: 25%
- Coordinate student experience within FSPH
- Facilitate and maintain relationships with faculty and staff to collaborate with AHD
- Coordinate guest lecturers to provide practice-based guidance to students
- Serve as Assistant Professor and teach as requested (maximum courses per semester to be determined in advance, based on FTE)
- Other duties as directed by senior leadership
Qualifications
- A Doctorate Degree in public health or a related discipline
- At least 5 years of experience in public health practice
OR
- A Master’s degree in a field related to public health
- AND at least 10 years of experience in public health practice
Required experience/skills:
- Collaborative experience with public health agencies or organizations
- Coordination of projects involving public health agencies or organizations
- Involvement in interdisciplinary collaborative projects
- Research experience related to public health
- Knowledge of and experience in public health practice
- Experience utilizing data to procure support for policy change or grant funding
- Experience writing and managing grants, including budget, evaluation and progress reports
- Meeting facilitation skills
- Computer skills
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Desired experience/skills:
- Involvement in grant proposals for local, state or national agencies
- Strong management skills and experience
- Involvement in publication or submission of manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals
- Use of data analysis software (SAS, R, nVivo, etc.)
Working Environment
- This position requires the ability to engage in and/or out of state travel as needed, requiring a valid driver’s license
