 2023 VolunTEEN Summer Program
(Please read all instructions carefully, incomplete applications will not be considered.)

The 2023 VolunTEEN program is an opportunity for experiential and service learning, providing community youth with a chance to gain a realistic perspective of a career in a health care environment. It is also a great way to network with peers, meet career professionals and gain community service hours needed for school and scholarships.

Teenagers 14 - 19 years old (must be 14 by Friday, March 31, 2023), who are interested in a career in health care and are in good academic standing, can now sign up for the annual summer VolunTEEN program. This program places a special emphasis on learning about careers in the healthcare, educational requirements, goal setting, and volunteer service.  Some of the careers we explore include medicine, nursing, physical therapy, mental health, and health care administration.  Teens will rotate through preset clinical and non-clinical activities, allowing them to view the workings of a community focused health system.

Eskenazi Health will be offering 3 summer sessions, applicants may choose one of three 2 week sessions, June 5 – June 16, 2023 (session one), June 19 – 30, 2023 (session two), or July 10 - 21, 2023 (session three).  Each two week sessions will run Monday - Friday, from 9am - 1pm.

All applicants are required to complete the Eskenazi Health VolunTEEN Summer Program online application.  First time applicants must also submit a minimum 500 word essay discussing their aspirations to work in health care, plans to achieve their goals, experiences they have had related to their career of choice, and describe how participating in the VolunTEEN program will help them in their quest to explore the career, or careers, of interest.  Applicants must also provide a copy of a current school transcript, this does not have to be an official transcript.   Both the essay and transcript must be uploaded to the application no later than 5pm, Friday, March 31, 2023.

A health screening, scheduled by Volunteer Services, is provided by Eskenazi Health Occupational Health to all program participants, free of charge, with a parental permission form.  The mandatory health screening at Eskenazi Health Occupational Health includes a Quantiferon Tuberculosis Blood Tests and an immunization verification, including COVID-19 vaccination. (teens must provide copies of their immunization records when health screenings are scheduled).

Program participants will receive a program t-shirt, free parking in the Eskenazi Health Parking Garage, and Meal tickets.  There is no charge for participation in this program.
