Job Role Summary

The Radiology Supervisor performs the duties of a working supervisor for an assigned area or shift, as well as carries out the responsibilities of a Technologist. This position reports to the Radiology Manager and proactively contributes to Eskenazi Health's mission: Advocate, Care, Teach, and Serve with special emphasis on the vulnerable population of Marion County, and models Eskenazi Health's values.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Performs duties of a working supervisor for an assigned area or shift, as well as carries out the responsibilities of a Technologist
  • Assigns specific exams to technologists; ensures scheduled exams are completed as ordered
  • Performs basic preventative maintenance on equipment; orders repairs when needed
  • Orders supplies for assigned area to maintain adequate operating procedures performed
  • Ensures all patients and patient information is logged
  • Collects and reports patient and procedure statistics for the shift to immediate supervisor on a monthly basis and annualizes information at year-end
  • Develops work schedules for specific shift and work areas; ensures optimal staff levels
  • Demonstrates a positive leadership role
  • Demonstrates financial responsibility when scheduling
  • Participates on the administrative call schedule for the department
  • Provides adequate and timely communications with staff
  • Encourages involvement and participation from the staff in departmental operations
  • Alters activities and behaviors to reflect and ensure adequate care appropriate to the age of patients served (i.e. adolescent, geriatric, pediatric, neonatal and adult)
  • Meets monthly with staff and maintains documentation of all communications
  • Participates in quality improvement and/or quality assurance for the department

Job Requirements

Indiana licensure as a Radiologic Technologist, Nuclear Medicine Technologist and/or ARDMS registration 

  • ARRT, ARDMS or NMTCB registration. including compliance with professional CEU requirements 
  • Three years of job-related experience required
  • Current CPR Certification required

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent command of anatomy, radiographic techniques, and radiologic positioning
  • Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served; ability to use age-appropriate communication skills
  • Knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span; ability to assess data and interpret appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to age-specific needs
  • Knowledge of all radiologic equipment, drug utilization, contrast media, pressure injectors, technical procedures (within assigned area); hospital protocols and procedures; safety procedures to minimize risk to patients, coworkers and self
  • Knowledge of and compliance with Eskenazi Health's Infection Control and Communicable Disease policies and procedures
  • Ability to effectively observe and perceive changing patient conditions, and to report questionable conditions to physicians and nursing personnel
  • Knowledge of the HIS, CR and RMS systems and associated programs, i.e. Film Tracking System, EPIC; ability to enter all appropriate patient and departmental data
  • Ability to lead, direct and evaluate the assigned technical staff and handle contacts with a high degree of tact, both with patients and in a supervisory context
